Chicago Highlights : Chicago's crown jewel is Millennium Park, built above Illinois Central Railroad tracks between the lakefront and Michigan Avenue north of Grant Park, opened in 2004. Highlights include Cloud Gate, the polished metal sculpture also known as "The Bean". The Jay Pritzker Pavillion, a band shell designed by Frank Gehrey. Crown Fountain, two 50 foot towers that project faces of 1000 Chicago residents, one at a time, on embedded LED video screens. Lurie Garden, located south of Pritzker Pavillion. Wrigley Square with the Millennium Monument. And Nichols Bridgeway leading to the Modern Wing of the Art Institute. While Millenium Park is the subject of many of the images in this gallery, other images include details from the Chicago Cultural Center, famous landmarks, and classic skylines. The Cultural Center, the old Chicago Public Library, showcases the magnificent Tiffany Dome, as well as jewel-like Tiffany mosaics.

South Sea Odyssey Highlights : Departing Tahiti on Sunday, September 28, and arriving in Fiji on Monday, October 13th, our odyssey took us 2200 miles in 14 days (we lost Tuesday, October 6 to the International Date Line). On our voyage we visited the Society Islands (Tahiti and Bora Bora), the remote coral island of Maupihaa, the Cook Islands (Atiu, Aitutaki, and Palmerston-population 50), the island of Niue, the Kingdom of Tonga (Neiafu, Niuatoputapu, and Niuafo'ou), Wallis and Futuna Islands, and Fiji (Taveuni and Viti Levu). The friendly and energetic Zegrahm expedition leaders provided us with amazing daily adventure opportunities. And our awesome Clipper Odyssey crew insured that our food, drinks and accommodations were first class in every way, and that our Zodiacs were all safely launched, recoverd, and stowed dozens of times daily. Mariposa Monarch (Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary) : Each year 150 MILLION Monarch butterflys migrate from the US and Canada to the 11,000 ft high mountain forests outside Morelia, and over-winter from November thru February. Four hours south of San Miguel, tours are well advertised and cost $75. Sacrifice a day for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. For $5 you can rise a horse the last mile and 1000 ft elevation-its worth it.

San Miguel de Allende-La Ruina : LaRuina was our home away from home for 10 days. An architectural gem, and only 3 blocks from El Jardin, Juarez Park, 2 neighborhood grocers, many shops and restaurants, it was the perfect spot to launch our varied activities.
